I HATE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT TEEN MOMS
By Khilyns momma 3 Years, 6 Months Ago
This is kinda long sorry

So today was kinda rough...As is any other daY for a teen mom.
I went to the doctors today because for a while i've been suspecting that i was pregnant again. Turns out my suspisions where wrong..and most likely my missed periods where caused by me being stressed. To make matters worst some women on the bus kept lookin at me disapprovingly while i was sittin with Khilyn. I hate when older people do that. They automatically make assumptions about you as soon as they see a young girl with a child. I may only be 17 but i pride myself in the fact that im an excellent mother to my daughter. Its not as if i got impregnated my some random boy. Khilyn's father and i have been dating since i was 13 years old. He's a great father to her. I still attend high school and will be graduating with the class of '09 this year, which is right on time. I plan on attending college in the city and still being a full time parent to my daughter. I want to be an early childhood education teacher and maybe open my own daycare or preschool. Its not as if i dont aspire to be anything. Havin my daughter at 16 didnt end my life...it started a new one for me, and not for one minute do i regret my decision to keep my child, and i feel like its wrong for anyone to try make me feel like i made a mistake. I kno its all gonna be worth it on june 25th 2009, when i walk across the stage and accept my diploma, and see my mom, dad, boyfriend, and most importantly Khilyn's smiling face in the crowd.

I love the ending of what you said, it was so nice. It's fantastic that you are going to pursue your dreams. Some girls that are young and have children or are pregnant, drop out of school to look after their babies, and end up working at McDonalds or something. I think it's good, that you know where you're headed.

The people are probably staring at you, because if they are "older", as you say, than that probably just reminds them of when they were young, and the difference in generations. Have you ever seen Juno, that's a perfect example of this generation. Young women/teens getting pregnant, as if it was normal, and a good thing to do. Not saying it's a bad or a good thing, in my opinion, it's just everyone has different ideas of the ideal age and bla bla bla, and I'll admit I have an idea of a good age to have children.

Don't get offended by people's actions or what they do, simply smile at them, and go on enjoying your daughter while she's little. They're so cute when they're little, and it's wonderful to watch them discover new things. Just shake it off, and enjoy your daughter, Tanise. She is a wonderful gift from God.

Hi I was browsing this site and I saw your post and I just wanted to tell you that you just have to ignore those types of people even though it may be hard to do. I think that there are lost of excellent teen moms out there and to be perfectly honest I am 25 and have been married for six yrs and have a 3yr old and I still think there are a lot of improvments I can make. And I truly believe that there is no wrong or right time to have a baby! I am so glad that you are so ambitious and you have a plan ahead for yourself. - Niki

I hate that too... I too only being 17 and 6 months pregnant with my first child get rude remarks and looks. I clearly do not understand this at all because i know generations away from us they also had children at very young age. I too will be walking the line in may 2009 to recieve my diploma and have already started dual enrollment at a community college. Dominic(my boyfriend) has already graduated and works full time as an auto mechcanic. not only do i know my parenting skills will not be impaired by my age but i know Age does not define how good of parents a mom or dad can be...
