Introducing Solids
By Lachysmummy 1 Year, 4 Months Ago
HI, my son in almost 4 months old and i recently started introducing solids into his diet as I found his feeding habbits changed and he was wanting a bottle every hour and a half to two hourly and he was drinking 180ml to 240ml at each sitting... I felt like i was forever feeding burping cleaning steralisisng and preparing bottles anda nothing else was getting done!! He is a formula feed baby as my milk never came in, as he is still yound i havent introduced to much into his diet just one jar baby food of the evening time and this seems to keep him happy and content. I did pleanty of research and even spoke to our GP before making the decision to start the solids... only now my husband has informed me that he is not happy with this decision as he seems to think that it is going to effect him learning, by this i mean my husband thinks it is going to make our son a "slow" learner

he thinks this becasue my husbands nephew was started early and all though a bright boy it sometimes takes him a little longer to pick things up compared to the other kids... I dont feel like it is because he was started on solids early i believe it is because him mother did not and still does not stimulate him all he does when he is not with his dad is play with his dsi, computer wii or watch tv and i feel this is the reason.

what are other people thoughts on the subject how can my husband and i come to an agreement and work something out that is going to make him happy and make it easier for me!!!

my husband works away from home so does not have to deal with the bottles cleaning food ect untill he gets home!!! any advice welcome

thanks

I agree with you. Starting the solid foods "early" shouldn't have an effect on how quickly a child will learn. That is genetics and a stimulating environment.

I have to agree with you and MeaghanAlyxia, feeding him solids wouldn't affect his learning, it comes down to the stimulation and the amount of time the parents spend with the child.

As for solids at 4 months, if your GP is alright with it, there's no need for him to go back to just formula.

I agree with eveyrone else, as long as your doctor gives you the go ahead, it's fine.

As for your husband, my advice would just maybe have him actually talk to the GP when he is at home, or find some articles online that prove that a baby eating solids "early" is fine. If that doesn't work or he stills doesn't like it, then just explain to him how you feel about formula feeding your son and how giving him solids is making things a bit easier on you.

I hope this helps and good luck
