You're welcome! I have become concerned about this whole topic ever since I was on here a few weeks ago looking at baby names. I have seen numerous teens around town pregnant and with babies, but when I read so many posts on here and how these teen girls are crying for help, it just brought it more to my attention. I went to our crisis pregnancy center and talked to the lady there, who gave me a book to read, Pure Expectations-A Godly Look at Love, Sex and Dating by Joe White. I have mentioned this in several other posts, but it is an EXCELLENT book in giving parents and teens advice on how to wait! She also gave me several pamplets on different sex topics.

I remember how it was 15 years ago when I was a teen. I remember my first bf, and how I just knew I couldn't live without him! I remember thinking that we would marry one day. And I remember the temptations...
one of the things is just make sure you know who your child's friends are and where he/she is at all times. I would say that if your child has a friend and you question what his/her parent allows their child to do, instead of your child spending the night at their house where you don't know what they'll get away with, invite them over to yours instead.
Don't just tell them not to have sex. Sit down and discuss with them why. Early pregnancy, STDs, (even with "protection) and also the fact that most teens are not going to marry the person they date now (that is really hard for a teen to see when they are "in love" ) but having sex is not going to keep a teenage couple together; in fact, it usually pulls them apart because once they start having sex, they spend less time getting to know each other emotionally and it's more about having sex. And if teens have sex, break up, fall in love with someone else, have sex...they are having more than one partner and what is this doing to them and their future marriage? Did you know that statistics show that people who have sex outside of marriage are far more likely to divorce after they marry than people who wait? The husband/wife who has had several sex partners before marriage becomes dissatisfied and looses attraction for his/her wife/husband.

Teens who want to wait need to know how far is too far to go, and stay away from places and situations that will tempt them, and parents can help them do that. Parents can help them do that even if they do want to have sex; not saying parents can 100% prevent it, but they can try and do their part.

Well, that all sounds good but to my mind if the couple has serious relations why not have sex? And about marriage: according the same statistics there are enough couples who divorce just because they can't stand each other in bed... Then isn't it better to try before making a family? Don't know, it's such a complicated topic... my husband is the second man in my life but we did have sex before marriage and were quite happy to try living together and making sure we are a good couple. )))

I'm sixteen and I'm still a virgin even though most of my friends aren't. It's not just the media that is pressuring for young people to have sex, I have found that it is more pressure from people my age at school. If you are still a virgin people just assume that you're a loser and can't get a guy. I have a hard time explaining that I'm a virgin by choice, I've had boyfriends and know heaps of guys but my virginity is something thats important to me and alot of people don't understand that. I plan to wait, not neccessarily until I am married, but at least until I'm older and find a guy that i get to know very well first and can picture spending my life with.

Sometimes you must remember though that alot of teens are pressured into it and end up regretting it, like lots of my friends. It's easy enough for you to say "wait until you're married" and "don't listen to what other people say" but it's very hard. I have been tempted more then enough times. Times have changed since you were all teenagers.
