I don't mean this rudely but names like Irelyn, Scotlyn, Hollyn makes the parents looks illiterate to me. If youre going name your child the same name of a country spell the name ight. and i really dont mean that meanly. i love the names Ireland, Scotland and Holland but those "unique" and "trendy" spellings seem so.. I.don't know the right.word..

Sommerlyn I find cute is love it more spelled summerlyn

Angel-thanks for the suggestions!!!

Gracie-I totally get that you're not trying to be mean!!! I know everyone has different opinions, and that's yours. If no one had different opinions, the world would be so boring!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone!!! I'm definitely adding Scotlyn to my list now. I'm nixing Sommerlyn, though; too long.

Thanks again!!!

-Adele XOXO

I'm unsure on Scotlyn. It looks like a girl's name, but I'd hate to have Scot or Scottie as a nickname for a girl, so I feel like it should be a boy's name.

Sommerlyn is ok, prefer it to be spelled Summerlyn or even Summer-Lynne, though.

Gracie, I understand what you're saying, but I just wanted to get my reasoning for liking the "unique" spellings out there (besides the fact that I just think 'y's are pretty). I like Irelyn opposed to Ireland and Scotlyn vs. Scotland etc. because I like having the distinction between the name of an actual person and the proper name of a country. I think it would be more confusing to see "Ireland rode to her first day of school with Holland and Scotland today," than it would be to see "Irelyn rode to her first day of school with Hollyn and Scotlyn today." In one sentence it looks like the countries all went to school together and in the other one you can actually tell it's people's names. Then there's a slight difference in pronunciation when you drop the 'd', too, which I like. That's just me, though.

I agree--the -lyn is girly, but I am not fond of the name Scott, so I dislike Scotlyn more than I like it.

Same here.

I also think this. I'm not a huge fan of Ireland or Irelyn, but I see these as quite different. I pronounce the D at the end for the country; the other way is just a name that sounds a lot like the country.
