I think Millie is very cute, and not common anymore, so there will not be 10 Millie's in her class. Millie is English, meaning "gentle" Some more formal versions are:

My name is melissa and my best friend of 14 years calls me milly I think thats the same pronouncation. but I would never want that to be my name. I think that you should give a child options with its name like if you really like the name milly then name it something like melissa and give her an option to be called milly. Another example... I like the name Isabella for a future daughters name and with the name of Isabella she could have people call her Issy,bell, or bella (my favorite but I would never use it as a first name cus then she would have any options) you see when kids grow up they sometimes dont like there names so if you gave them a name that would give them options to be called something else they may thank you for it!
