Honeez, would you like me to share what I can remember from memory about the Lamaze breathing, and you can practice it. Now, remeber it was 22 years ago that I used this last.
Now, you start with phase 1 at first. Use this breathing as long as you can. When pain intensifies,do Phase 1, then shift gears and go into phase 2. always end with phase 1, cause you go back and forth, phase 1, phase 2, phase 3, phase 4, phase 3, phase 2, phase1 - rythm. Focus on doing your breathing phase, and the changes in breathing. Now, let me explain different breathing techniques: Practice and focus. You will get it. Lets try:
Phase 1: Take deep breath in. Exhale with lips pursed, as if you are blowing a spoon of hot soup. Blow it all out. Ok, do this 5 times, or as long as contraction takes.
Phase 2
Put tongue behind upper teeth. Open mouth - Inhale. Close mouth - exhale. Now breath this for 5 breaths, do Phase 1, for 5 breaths. You will always finish with Phase 1 - 5 breaths. (blow soup)
Phase 3: Think of a song, and use fingers on one hand, and place on belly. Lightly tap, and sing a song silently to yourself. What happens in this phase, is your breath gets more shallow, and you breath with your singing, and keep tapping. Sing all through song. Then Do Phase 2- 5 times breath phase 2. Then do Phase one - breath 5 times, phase 1. (blow soup)
See you always end contraction breathing Phase 1. You go back and forth. Only up the phase as the contraction gets longer. But you are focusing on singing your song and tapping. Ok.
Now, once you feel baby crowning, you will enter into Phase 4 breathing:
Just whisper the words "Out, Out, Out, Out, Out", really put a strong T, ouT ouT (sometimes you only need 2 outs, and sometimes maybe 10 - you do what you need, then go to phase 3 - sing your song, tap your fingers, -go to phase 2 - tongue behind top teeth inhale, close mouth, exhale, 5 times -go to phase 1 - deep breath in, blow your soup, 5 times. Deep breath, out. relax. Are you practicing?
See the contractions are coming faster now, and you really have to focus on you breathing - your mind focuses on changing breathing, going up and down in phase styles. It takes your mind away from pain. Believe me. Try this. Let me know what you think.
