Thanks you guys. His appointment at the vet wasn't until the morning so I was stressing over it last night. We ended up having to put him down ): but it wasn't viral or anything. He had a urinary blockage that made his system septic w/in 24 hours. So no danger to the baby thankfully but I do miss my kitty.

i dont know what doctor you went to or maybe you heard wrong but you do not "catch" allergies from cats. you are either born with it or you just develop it over time. of course im not saying you should allow your cat to climb and rub all over your newborn,of course not. And furthermore they should not be allowed in the baby's room. But you don't have to send them packing. Read a book man,don't believe everything you hear. There's even a few articles on cats in "what to expect when your expecting."

I just found this poem that someone gave me a few years ago when my dog died. It's a little corny and it still makes me cry but in a strange way it helped me feel better. I hope it does the same for you

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

awwwww that is so sweet. i lost a kitty last summer that we had since the day she was born. she lived to be 13 yrs old and after a 3 year battle with diabetes we had to put her down. i still miss her. i hope that thats true. i wish i could have her back.....
